In the mid-1700s, exotic treks and travels throughout the Orient became quite popular.
As travelers began to romanticize and document these unusual and fascinating experiences,
the legendary furniture designer Thomas Chippendale began adapting Chinese-inspired
creations to English proportions, observing the use of classic lines and timeless designs that
became known as the Chinese Chippendale style.

Orient takes us back in time to this romantic and historical era, when travel to exotic locales
was not particularly easy, yet regarded as a must for socialites and artists seeking discovery
and wonderment. Extensively detailed fretwork and latticework define the Chinese pattern
that is the dominant characteristic of Chinese Chippendale design. The framework of Orient
is uniquely crafted of powder-coated aluminum cast from real bamboo and then formed and
recast to create an authentic design aesthetic with a tortoise shell finish.
